In This House: A House for Everyone

June 29, 2025

 1 Timothy 2: 1-2 (NLT)
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and holiness.

1 Timothy 2: 3-4 (NLT)
This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

Notes:

In this house, we for … .

In this house, is .

Notes:

1 Timothy 2: 5-7 (NLT)
For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.

1 Timothy 2: 8 (NLT)
I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, free from anger and controversy.

Notes:

Ephesians 6: 12 (NLT)
12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

1 Timothy 2: 9-10 (NLT)
And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should clothe themselves with good deeds.

In this house, we put on .

Notes:

1 Timothy 2: 11-15 (NLT)
11 Women should learn quietly and submissively. 12 I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. 13 For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result.  15 But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.

In this house, we value the entirety of .

In this house, everyone is to participate.

Notes:

1 Timothy 2: 5-6 (NLT)
For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.

Memory Verse:

1 Timothy 2:4 (NLT)
God wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

Discussion/Reflection Questions:

  • How do you typically respond to people in authority you disagree with?
Reflect on 1 Timothy 2:1–2. How might your prayer life need to shift in light of Paul’s call to pray “for all people,” especially those in leadership?
  • Who is included in your definition of “everyone”?
Are there individuals or groups you find difficult to pray for or welcome? What would it look like to see them the way Jesus does?
  • What does it mean to “attract people to Jesus, not ourselves”?
How can we practice humility—through prayer, how we dress, how we post online, or how we treat others—so that others are drawn to Jesus through us?
  • How has God changed or challenged your thinking about people who are different from you?
Think about your views on immigration, politics, or social class. How has your heart grown to reflect God’s compassion and mission?
  • What role does humility play in creating a welcoming church?
How can we guard against pride or exclusivity—whether through our behavior, status, or assumptions—and instead cultivate a house that reflects Jesus’ heart for everyone?
  • What’s one step you can take this week to actively love or pray for someone outside your comfort zone?
Think of a specific person or group. What would it look like to treat them as part of the “everyone” God wants to reach?
