May 14, 2023 / Andrew "Fitz" Fitzgibbon HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!! Can Jesus make me clean? Leviticus 13:45-46 (NIV) 45 “Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ 46 As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp. Luke 5:12 (NIV) 12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Faith is being confident that Jesus is able, and hopeful He is willing. Faith is always confident of God’s ability, but never presumptuous of God’s activity. Luke 5:13 (NIV) 13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him. Faith is always confident of God’s ability, but never presumptuous of God’s activity. The leper demonstrates the attitude every one of us should have in approaching Jesus: surrender. Spiritual maturity is not defined by how clean you’ve made yourself…it’s demonstrated by continual surrender at the feet of Jesus. Luke 5:14 (NIV) 14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” Luke 5:15-16 (NIV) 15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Compassion has a cost. Will you surrender at the feet of Jesus? Who is the ONE Person who needs you to reach out with the hand of compassion?
