And I will secure his royal throne forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. FULFILLMENT: Matthew 1:1 NLT This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham… PROMISE: Isaiah 7:14 NLT The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). FULFILLMENT: Luke 1:35 NLT The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. PROMISE: Hosea 11:1 NLT “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.” FULFILLMENT: Matthew 2:14-15 NLT 14 That night Joseph left for Egypt with the child and Mary, his mother, 15 and they stayed there until Herod’s death. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: “I called my Son out of Egypt.” The Arrival He is Doing Now PROMISE: Psalm 78:1-2 NLT 1 O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying, 2 for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past. FULFILLMENT: Matthew 13:34-35 NLT 34 Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables. 35 This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet: “I will speak to you in parables. I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world.” PROMISE: Isaiah 9:1-2 NLT 1 Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. 2 The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. FULFILLMENT: Matthew 4:12-17 NLT 12 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee. 13 He went first to Nazareth, then left there and moved to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 This fulfilled what God said through the prophet Isaiah: 15 “In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River, in Galilee where so many Gentiles live, 16 the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined.” 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” The Arrival He Will Do PROMISE: John 14:1-3 NLT 1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” PROMISE: Mark 13:26-27 NLT 26 Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. PROMISE: Acts 1:10-11 NLT 10 As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!” FULFILLED: Still waiting… Hebrews 11:1 NLT Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. It is our that gives us the for Jesus to return again. *Go Help Everyone Find and Follow Jesus Extra Notes: What part of the service impacted you the most?
